Welcome to The Translanguaging Mindset Course

The Translanguaging Mindset is a self-paced professional learning course designed for educators working in multilingual and international school contexts.

In many international and bilingual schools, translanguaging is encouraged in theory, but in practice, teachers are often left wondering what it actually looks like day to day. This course bridges that gap by focusing on how a language-inclusive mindset shows up in everyday classroom decisions across subjects, age groups, and learning contexts.

Rather than positioning translanguaging as a set of add-on strategies or a language “free-for-all,” this course frames it as intentional instructional design. Participants explore how classroom norms, task design, grouping structures, and teacher language choices can either support or unintentionally silence students’ home languages, and how small, realistic shifts can make learning more inclusive and cognitively rich.

Throughout the course, educators engage with short video lessons, practical examples, and reflection prompts that connect research-informed ideas to real classroom practice. The emphasis is on strategies that are doable, sustainable, and aligned with high academic expectations.

This course is designed for:

  • Classroom teachers working in multilingual settings

  • EAL and learning support teachers

  • School leaders seeking a clearer understanding of language-inclusive practice

  • Educators who want practical approaches without needing to speak students’ home languages

By the end of the course, participants will have a clearer understanding of translanguaging as a mindset and concrete ideas they can apply immediately to support participation, deeper thinking, and student belonging.
